There has been quite a few Pixel 3 XL leaks and each time I see one I grow closer apart from buying one. The latest Pixel 3 XL leak confirms I will not be buying one. Currently, I am using the Pixel 2 XL as my daily. It’s a great phone, has one of the best if not the best cameras, and has the latest Android OS. The screen on this particular Pixel 2 XL does not look bad compared to my first 2 or 3 units. There’s really nothing to complain about with the Pixel 2 XL. However, Google decided to join em, not beat em.
A @MobileSyrup reader spotted this possible Pixel 3 XL photo in the wild on the streetcar in Toronto, Ontario today. Our team thinks the photo is legitimate, especially given the big notch and substantial chin. Do you think this is a photo of the Pixel 3 XL? pic.twitter.com/nPTGHmIVUO

Pixel 3 XL leak
That notch is disgusting. There’s a huge chin. The design is horrible. I would MUCH rather have a phone with a bigger bezel than to have an ugly notch like what we see on these Pixel 3 XL leaks. Samsung and HTC seem to be the only ones who have not copied/ followed the dumb trend of the notch from Apple’s iPhone X.
I just don’t get why companies who pretty much make fun of Apple, end up doing what Apple does. Google and OnePlus troll Apple in their ads and presentations. Yet they end up doing what Apple does at some point. They try to say that are different and don’t follow trends; you get the picture.
Design wise, the notch is supposed to give more screen real estate. The Pixel 3 XL has the largest notch AND has a big chin. Looks like the chin is because of a front-facing speaker, which is nice. I don’t know, if I was in charge of design there would have been no way I would have made a notch on the Pixel. Just simply bezel it out and pack in all the hardware needed. Put the cameras, speakers, sensors, etc and be done. No need for a notch.
Don’t get me wrong, I am not pissed. There are MUCH bigger issues to get upset about. I am very disappointed though. Every year since the Nexus days I have looked forward to what Google was going to produce. This year notch so much (sorry I couldn’t help it). Hopefully, my Verizon reps are able to get me a review unit that I can test out for a few weeks and still report on everything else. Pixel has made the best camera and that’s what I care about the most. Along with stock Android elements.
What’re your thoughts on this design? Are you holding off on this year’s design or does it bother you at all? Sound off in the comments.
