Potential Galaxy S8 issues?
We all are aware of the multi-layered debacle that Samsung endured with the Galaxy Note 7 and its battery issues. Many claims of the phone catching fire or exploding. Some true and others just seemingly trying to extort some form of recompense from Samsung. But, people did get hurt, both physically and with property damage and the problem WAS real enough to cause multiple recalls on the device, with Samsung finally feeling forced to take drastic measures to completely shut down the phone.
Every time that the saga seems to have come to an end, another story pops up. The latest being that yesterday, February 8th, the factory that supplied the Note 7 batteries, Samsung SDI – Tianjin, China, ITSELF caught fire. That’s right, the manufacturing facility. Thank God, no one was hurt and the fire seems to have been restricted to the factory’s waste depository, which meant that production was not affected, but still it, once again, causes the general consumer to put more thought into whether or not we should put our trust in a Galaxy device.
The fire was extinguished quickly, but reports of black smoke emerging from the factory caused some to speculate that the fire was larger than Samsung claimed. And yes, the authorities say that it WAS caused by lithium-ion batteries.
Naturally, it caused me to pose the question in this article, “Do you have enough trust in Samsung to buy the Galaxy S8?” In my case, I THINK I will be getting the S8, but I will probably wait a few weeks, just to see if anyone has any issues. If I don’t get it, it’s more likely the cost of the device that will stop me, just as I did not buy the Galaxy S7 for the same reason. I’d be interested in your response though.
By the way, Samsung SDI has been charged (bad use of terms?) with manufacturing the batteries for the Galaxy S8. Just sayin’.
